40 Fathoms
40 Fathoms is supposedly the depth to which the Maria Doria sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. Lara can explore the hull and ballast tanks of the ship which has come to rest in several sections, before leaving moving into the Wreck of the Maria Doria. 40 Fathoms is the seventh level of Tomb Raider II.

Summary
After an FMV showing the descent to the wreck of the Maria Doria, Lara is left in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. Following a trail of wreckage she can enter the wreck through a hole where the anchor protrudes. This part of this ship appears to have come to rest upside down.
Marco Bartoli's men have already started exploring the hull and ballast tanks. Most of these rooms are filled with bleached wooden crates and are flooded with water. Later, Lara will be able to move around an engineering area of the ship, where gas pipes have ruptured to produce naked flames.
Eventually, Lara will reach the ballast tanks. Here she can move quantities of earth from one room to another to reveal an exit and leave the level.

Notes
A fathom is only about 1.8 metres, and so 'forty fathoms' is less than 80 metres deep. Even so, it would not be possible for a human to dive to that depth, even with scuba equipment, and so Lara is lucky that there are various air pockets in the wreck for her to get her breath back.
