Angelina Jolie (b. Angelina Jolie Voight on June 4, 1975) is an American film actress and and a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. In 2001, Jolie portrayed Lara Croft in the film adaptation of the popular Tomb Raider Series, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. The movies debute spawned $48.2 million, making it the most sucsessful video game adaptaion to date. In 2003, Jolie reprised her role as Lara Croft in the less sucsessful Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which only grossed $65 million domestically. The failure was blamed on the worst recieved game of the series The Angel Of Darkness.

Early Life
Angelina Jolie was born to actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California. She is of German and Slovak decent on her fathers side and French Canadian on her mothers. She is also said to be part Iroquois.
In 1976, Jolie's parents seperated, leaving her mother to give up her acting carrer in order raise Jolie and her brother. When Jolie was 11, her family moved back to Los Angeles, where she enrolled at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. After two years of training, Jolie dropped out of acting school and dreamed of becoming a funeral director. Two years later she returned to her studies and graduated from high school. In 2001, Jon Voight (Jolie's long astranged father) played the part of Lord Richard Croft in the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, in which Jolie starred. Later, in July of 2002, Jolie dropped the surname name Voight, making her new legal name Angelina Jolie. The change became official in September of 2002.
