Barracuda are long, slender fish that can grow up to six feet in length. They are predatory hunters with fang-like teeth and large eyes to spot their prey. Although they are seen in Tomb Raider II in the cold North Atlantic Ocean, various subspecies also live in tropical waters in the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean.

Much like sharks, barracuda have an unfortunate reputation of being dangerous to humans, although generally it is quite unfounded. A school of barracuda following a diver usually mistake the human for some larger predator, and plan to scavenge from any kill that it makes. Of the few recorded cases of barracuda attacking humans, the fish almost always leave the human alone after the first bite, recognising that the human is not its usual source of food.

Barracuda are to be respected however, as they are well able to defend themselves if attacked or provoked. They are also attracted to shiny objects such as jewellery or watches, so consider this if you want to avoid them.

Tomb Raider II

These barracuda are an extremely aggressive breed, and will swim after Lara to attack and kill her. They often occur in groups of two or three. Luckily, they don't swim as fast as Lara, but often escaping them means coming up against a hungry shark!
