Bears

The only bears that Lara ever meets are brown bears and polar bears. The brown bears that Lara faces occur only in the Peru levels of Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider Anniversary. The polar bears occur in one level of The Golden Mask, the expansion for Tomb Raider II. Bears are very large and extremely fierce. Despite their bulk they move quite fast, but do have difficulty changing direction to keep attacking Lara.

In both Tomb Raider and the remake, brown bears occur by themselves in sheltered areas or pits. It is possible to play through the games without seeing some of the bear inhabitants at all.

Despite the proliferation of brown bears that are found in the Peru levels of both games, brown bears are not native to Peru.

The Golden Mask

There are only two bears in the entire game, and both are found in two adjoining caves in the third level, Furnace of the Gods. They can be easily killed from a distance.
