Tomb Raider

He is first mentioned in the pack insert for the original Tomb Raider. We are told that Lord Henshingley Croft had his daughter brought up as an aristocrat, sending her for example to a Swiss finishing school. However after the plane crash, thanks to her rebellion against the stifling demands of the English aristocracy, her family disowned her.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

He is also mentioned in the pack insert for the Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation. We are told that Lord Croft allows Lara to travel with Werner Von Croy in an archeological tour across Asia.

Tomb Raider Chronicles

At the beginning of Chronicles, Lara is missing in Egypt presumed dead. In the first FMV Cutscene, the cutscene shows her memorial statue being visited by a huddled couple in the rain. It was generally supposed by the TR fandom at the time that the couple were Lara's parents, both apparently still alive and visiting their daughter's grave.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Movie)

In the first Tomb Raider movie Lara's father - renamed Richard Croft - was played by Angelina Jolie's real-life father John Voight. Lord Croft was an archaeologist (now deceased) and a former member of the Illuminati. Lara finds an old letter from Croft hidden in the Croft Mansion telling her about the society's agenda. Flashbacks establish that Lara and her father were close when she was a child, and imply that her mother is dead.

Second Continuity (TRLegend-Underworld)

Lord Richard Croft, Earl of Abbingdon, is presented as a renowned archaeologist and husband of Amelia DeMornay. After Amelia desappeared in a plane crash, Richard sank further and further into obsession, consumed with discovering what had become of her. When Lara was fifteen , he himself disappeared while on a dig in Cambodia.

Extra

First Continuity Perhaps Lara’s restless nature and desire for adventure was inherited from her father. He had visited archaeological digs in places such as Jordan, Egypt and South America in his youth. Although he had little time to read these days, he still subscribed to archaeological journals and on the odd occasion when he had time to spend with Lara, she would listen, totally captivated, as he recounted his experiences.

Second Continuity Richard Croft desappeared in Cambodia when Lara was fifteen and now he is presumed dead.
