Nevada Desert is the first level of the Nevada stage of Tomb Raider III. In it, Lara visits an area of desert in Nevada close to Groom Lake. Access is restricted for the general public as there are various military installations and experiments taking place. However, Lara needs to infiltrate the nearby Area 51 base in order to find Element 115.

Summary

Lara enters the level in a small canyon. By accessing the caves and passages in front of her, she finds a way onto a small mesa and a building that houses a deep well. She can continue to a larger canyon with a lake and a waterfall at one end.

Lara's next tasks involve going upstream, as she climbs the cliff face and negotiates the perilous currents of the river. Eventually she will find a large waterwheel that channels water away from a hydro-electric dam that may provide power to the nearby bases. She raises a platform in one of the surrounding caves to gain a Detonation Key.

Lara then has to return to the second canyon and blow up a small underground chamber. This allows her access into the fourth and final area, where a small base has been established. Lara must approach indirectly, as the fence surrounding the base is electrified. Finally she will get a quadbike and head out of the base, and leap the fence to the next level, the High Security Compound. The level ends with a cutscene in which Lara's quadbike crashes and she is knocked unconscious. Two Military Policemen find her and drag her away to the High Security Compound.
