City Of Khamoon
The temple-city of Khamoon is located within a cavern somewhere in Egypt. The location is important if the location of the Lost Island, a remnant of Atlantis is to be guessed. The level is the tenth level in Tomb Raider, and was re-created for Anniversary, although it was re-named 'Temple' of Khamoon.

Tomb Raider
The approach to the level is made through a sandy cave. Access to a central area of the city is gained by moving blocks in a small cavern just before it.
The central plaza of Khamoon is made up of several artefacts. To Lara's left, there is a door to the Sanctuary of the Scion which is closed. A large statue of a Sphinx stands at one end, while a pool with a small obelisk is located to Lara's right.
Lara can gain access to the various rooms and corridors within the complex through finding a key and a door within the sphinx. Various rooms are located within the temple - one with a row of statues, another featuring a pool with platforms, a panther trap and a sand room.
A key must be used to open the doors leading to the Obelisk of Khamoon.
Anniversary Version
In Anniversary Khamoon was recreated very faithfully, only making the rooms larger and more complex. The approach to the mechanisms and puzzles also changed significantly, in view of Lara's improved abilities.
The level now contains two Sphinx statues located in the central area. The city is still located underground but is also lit with areas of natural light like the Colosseum and the Palace Midas. In essence the level remains unchanged, except that in the original, part of the level before (the room with blocked entrances) now appears at the end of the level in Anniversary. It will also be necessary to match the hieroglypics with those found on podiums in the room with ones found in the blocked siderooms.

Notes
From the backing soundtrack in Tomb Raider, it is clear that Khamoon and its caves lie close to a significant body of tidal water - either the Red or Mediterranean Seas.
