Lara encounters Tigers in India, TRIII

Tigers appear in both Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III, in the first levels of both games. They are another of the many carnivores that Lara meets on her travels.

Tomb Raider II

Tigers only appear in The Great Wall and later in the Ice Palace and the Temple of Xian. The ones that appear in the Ice Palace have a genetic mutation that causes their usually orange fur to turn white. The tigers that she meets would be Siberian or Amur Tigers. Despite being vicious and very territorial they are relatively easy to get rid of. They can be found both individually and in groups of up to three.

Siberian Tigers are one of the most threatened species in the world with a conservation status of 'Critically Endangered'. Happily for animal-loving raiders, certainly those that appear in the Great Wall can be easily avoided.

Tomb Raider III

Lara encounters Bengal Tigers while exploring a collection of ruins in the Jungle in India. These cannot be so easily avoided, and are as fierce and territorial as their Chinese and Tibetan counterparts. They are most often encountered on their own, but occasionally in pairs. Lara will not meet them again after the game's first level.

Tomb Raider Underworld

Tigers appear around the ruins of Bhogavati on the coast of Thailand. They appear to be a smaller sub-species known as Indochinese Tigers, of which only a few hundred individuals remain. They are unlike the tigers of previous games as they are much larger, faster and fiercer - they also appear in pairs when attacking.
