Toby Gard

Toby Gard is a video-game designer who (along with his co-workers) created the character Lara Croft while working for Core Design in 1995. He famously claimed Lara's breast size was due to slippage of the mouse.

He was originally employed at Core Design, the company that developed the first Tomb Raider game. Following the success of Tomb Raider in 1996, Toby Gard took a brief hiatus from Lara and set up Confounding Factor, a video-game development studio he and co-developer Paul Douglas founded in April 1997. After developing Galleon there, an X-Box game that took over 7 years to release, he was hired by Eidos (publisher and copyright holder of the Tomb Raider series) to work with Crystal Dynamics on Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend. His role within Legend was limited to an advisor/consultant, rather than a designer of the game.

His expertise was again used in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary when he was given the role of lead designer. He co-wrote the story for Underworld as well.
